Today, people in Sukhumi follow Vladislav Ardzinba, their first President and a symbol of the national-liberation struggle of the people of Abkhazia, to his grave. At 9 in the morning the coffin with his body was placed in the Abkhazian State Philharmonic Society. The mourning ceremony will last till 3:00 p.m. Moscow time.

No agreements reached at five-sided meeting in Gali, Abkhazia
| On March 2, in Abkhazia, at a meeting in Gali, the working group on prevention of and reaction to incidents in the Georgian-Abkhazian conflicts zone, no agreement was reached on any point. This was reported by Levan Tevzaya, who represents the government of the Abkhazian Autonomous Republic in exile, recognized by Tbilisi. Delegates from Abkhazia, Russia, Georgia UN and EU took part in the meeting. |

Georgian citizen died in Abkhazian prison from kidney insufficiency, not beatings, doctors say
| Citizen of Georgia Demur Gogokhiya, who served his term in the Dranda Prison in Abkhazia, died from sharp kidney insufficiency, not from beatings. This was stated today to journalists in Sukhumi by Guram Shoua, chief physician of the Agudzeri Hospital, who made his comments on the information from the Georgian party about Gogokhiya's violent death. |

Komoedov: deployment of united military bases in Abkhazia will strengthen Russian Black Sea Fleet
| Due to placement of Russian united military bases in Abkhazia, the Black Sea Fleet of Russia will become less vulnerable. This is the opinion of Admiral Vladimir Komoedov, former Commander of the Black Sea Fleet (BSF) and now Deputy of the State Duma.
